Alexandru Ion

Alexandru Ion is one of the pioneers of Romanian esports and the key man behind Nexus Gaming since 2015. The organization started from a gaming bar concept / internet cafe. The esports team was originally a marketing engine that managed to surprise everyone through phenomenal results not only in Romania but also internationally. In 2018, the new Nexus location was inaugurated, a large space destined for Romanian gamers, which serves both as an internet cafe and as a training space for professional players. The Nexus Media sub-brand was established in 2019, an influencer marketing agency and video production company which hosted three full seasons of Romanian Esports League.

Tudor Dăescu

Tudor Daescu is the General Manager of PR agency Daescu Bortun Olteanu, handling communication for tech, gaming companies, and gaming studios. Aside from the PR business, Tudor and his colleagues co-founded some of Romania’s most important events in the video game industry in Romania – Bucharest Gaming Week and Gaming Marathon, successfully exported to Greece and Bulgaria. In 2020, Tudor launched Gaming Video Awards, an annual award event that celebrates the best video content, the brands, and the communication agencies that speak to the Romanian gaming communities. Daescu Bortun Olteanu is happy to announce the first edition of Esports Summit Bucharest 2021, a b2b conference for stakeholders of the industry, that strives to become the CEE event in Esports.

Mihai Pohonțu graduated in 2003 from the University of California, Los Angeles (International Relations), and his first job was at Xdrive Technologies from 1999 to 2001 where he coordinated the testing of various software. From 2001 to 2003 he was a project manager at Activision in Los Angeles, and from 2003 to 2005 he managed the Los Angeles operations of JAMDAT Mobile, a company for which he founded and managed the studio from July 2005 to February 2006. The company was taken over by Electronic Arts, and Pohonțu worked at EA until 2012, holding several management positions. From spring 2012 to fall 2014 he served as VP Product Operations at Disney Interactive, and in 2015 he accepted the role of VP Emerging Platforms at Samsung. In 2017 he became CEO of Amber, the largest independent video game developer in Romania, and since 2021 he has held the position of CEO, from where he leads the board of directors and coordinates the company’s development strategies.

Cătălin Butnariu

Cătălin Butnariu is the President of RGDA – Romanian Video Game Developers Association and, as such, is one of the most vocal supporters of this sector in Romania, as well as the founder of the regional industry conference, Dev.Play. Cătălin is also currently working at Amber, as Chief Strategy Officer, and in the past he was General Manager at Carbon Incubator and Division Director at Gameloft. Cătălin plays on all platforms, but predominantly on PC and mobile. He prefers RPG, strategy (especially turn-based) and shooters, but also other genres. Favourite titles include The Witcher 3, Civilization and Hearthstone.
